History
Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home was originally founded as the Chico Funeral Home in 1955 by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mabrey. Today the funeral home is Chico's most elegant mortuary, surrounded in a rainbow of stained glass windows. The rich, warm colors of the newly renovated chapel interior offers a beautiful but conservative setting for both small and large services.

The director was fresh out the proverbial womb. Spoke to my mom, brother and I in a very unprofessional manner. We requested Thumbies of my father, and I trusted that he would put it in the order. We've never done this before, we expected to have our hands held and absolutely babied throught the process because we are grieving. We are sad, angry, frustrated, and tired with just the fact my dad is dead, but to have THE Robert Bracewell tell my mom that the file for his thumbprint was corrupt and couldn't get the Thumbie for another couple weeks is downright abhorrent. It was the director first, but to have the owner double down on a blatant lie was too much.
It was never on the receipt. The director did not put it on the order list, did not double or triple check DESPITE HEARING ALL THREE OF US SAY WE WANTED IT. I watched him write it down. Then he comes in with a fucking portable card reader and STANDS in front of my mom with it in her face, and said "your total will be XXX.XX today."
That was my last lifeline to feel like my dad wasn't completely gone and I was lied to.
Lies, liars, and cut corners. You should be fucking ashamed of yourselves for how you run this business. You will never EVER touch one of my family members again.- helpfull 0

My mother died almost a month ago, and we'd set up getting a fingerprint prior to her cremation for a necklace. I went to NB to get the website for the jewelry 2 weeks after her death because they hadn't contacted me, and they had no information. It took them more than another week to respond to me.
When they called, they said they "tried" to get her fingerprint, but her fingers were too worn down after all the hard physical work in her life. She was a housewife that occasionally worked in offices.
It's obvious they forgot to get her fingerprint, and came up with an excuse. If that had been the real reason, they would've notified my family prior to completing the cremation to let us know. Instead, they provided no communication until we pressed the issue. Now, I have to call my sister and tell her she can't have the same thing she'd received after my father died. Instead of being honest, NB tried to come up with a pathetic excuse.
Use ANYBODY else in Chico, just based on their lack of honesty.- helpfull 0
