USE EXTREME CAUTION WITH NH Construction
ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION / BID....
Our tenants in Paradise call -- drain backing up. Thrifty Rooter (Paradise) inspected and the worst news came... needs a new septic tank and field. Since Thrifty was recommended by our property manager, we asked for a quote -- $24,500.00. Knowing nothing about septic systems and the urgency of the situation, I said go ahead. Key point: the quote and work was to be done by NH Construction.
One week later... through other sources and other quotes, we find the average cost for this work is $13,000 - $15,000 (max).
Since NH Construction actually bid and was the contractor doing the work, we brought this to their attention. We nicely asked to stop work (only work done so far was a 10x10 deck removed). On that same day of our call, the work permit was pulled from the City of Paradise. Coincidence.... not !
How did it end??.... after lots (and I mean lots) of calls, discussions, NH Construction wanting to know who was bidding (so they could influence the other quotes I requested -- why did they want specific names??), itemizing accounting requests for costs and work done, un-truths to cover up we caught them.... I agreed to pay $17,000. This was $2,000 - $4,000 more than I should have.
