Tenshin Dojo School of Aikido

I found Tenshin Aikido Chico because I was looking for a place that took a serious approach to Aikido. For about a year, I studied at two different dojos in Sacramento. I liked it, but something was definitely missing. The ukes were too compliant and would throw themselves. As far as attacks go, there was no punching, kicking, or takedowns. The majority of techniques started from a wrist grab. There were too many gaps in the way they train. I would always find myself thinking "I could get out of this" or "this wouldn't work". Sadly, too many dojos train like this. I needed to find a place with a more of a combative approach. I'm so glad I found Tenshin Dojo Chico. Not only do they teach defense against fast punches and kicks, but they also keep their attacks honest. This way, you know the techniques work. Sensei Calderon is an extraordinary teacher. He has a vast knowledge of aikido principles and techniques and teaches a very precise execution of said techniques. His style can be very severe and works on larger opponents. He also teaches how to engage multiple attackers. At the same time, his aikido can be gentle and subtle and it shows in his kids class. His ability to teach you on a level you're comfortable with makes him an exemplary instructor. Nutrition and fitness is also incorporated into his curriculum. Fitness is definitely a big part of our training. If you want to get in shape and become a more disciplined person, you will find it here. If you want a no nonsense approach to self defense, this is the place. There's definitely something for everyone at this dojo. It's not your regular watered down aikido. This is the real deal. This is the highest quality aikido around at almost half the price of other dojos. You can't beat that!
