Zumiez

I stopped in the Chico store to exchange a skateboard that I purchased from the Redding store. Redding store sold me this board even though it looked as though it may have been used before. The deck looked a little scuffed but I did not mind until I realized one of the bearings were defective. I called the Chico store manager (Xavier) and explained the situation in great detail and he said to bring it in for an exchange.

I drove from Stirling City to Zumiez in Chico only to have Xavier try to tell me the board had been used and he could not do the exchange. I explained to him that the Redding store manager sold me this board exactly as it is. He had a hard time believing that the Redding store Manager would sell a board in this condition and made it very clear by sub-texting and condescending tones that he did not believe me. After once again explaining to him what I already discussed over the phone, he decided to do the exchange.

This is where he became rude and unfriendly, ESPECIALLY being the fact that he's the leader of this store. While my daughter was choosing another board I couldn't stop overhearing him continue to subtext to employees about the condition of the board and how he just could not believe Redding store manager would sell me a board in this condition. I grew irritated and confronted Xavier by saying, "I feel disrespected because I'm being called a liar". That statement must have offended him because he threatened to have me exchange it at another Zumiez store. This would have required me to drive at least another hour to another Zumiez store. I explained to him that he's the one being offensive with his subtle accusations and sub-texting.

During the exchange he realized that I was telling the truth when he saw the employee's name on my receipt and the 10% "markdown" the GM from Redding store applied. Before this he was ADAMANT on how the Redding store, especially the GM Javier (who held a higher position than him), would never sell me a board in this condition. At this point he literally appeared dazed and confused. I finally asked if the exchange was complete so I could leave the store. He said yes and he still seemed to be in awe over the situation. On my way out I made it clear to him (for the 10th time) that I'm an honest person with integrity.

In the end, the Store Manager Xavier didn't even offer me an apology. I will never come back to any Zumiez store. This Xavier fellow is a very rude, condescending, and frail man.

I generally don't review retail stores but Brian at this location was extremely helpful. I had a return and and he just went above and beyond to help me and to make sure I found what I wanted. His customer service skills were exceptional and he was very friendly.
